SoTL 2008: On The Subject, a Conference on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning will be held March 26-28, 2008, at the Holiday Inn West in Myrtle Beach, SC. The conference will bring together researchers, developers, and practitioners who apply SoTL, through the use of technology and active learning strategies, in a variety of subject areas. SoTL 2008: On The Subject will focus on the practice of SoTL in disciplines including:
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
- Social, Behavioral and Health Sciences
- Liberal Arts, Performance Arts and Communication
- Business, Management, Marketing, Finance, Sports/Tourism Management
Invited speakers for the conference will be Dr. Alix Darden (The Citadel) and Dr. William DeLuca (North Carolina State University).
Wednesday Workshops will be held on March 26 (2 hours each) and will cover the following topics:
- 11 AM: Collecting and analyzing data in the practice of SoTL (spreadsheet software will be provided as part of the workshop)
- 1:30 PM: Preparing teaching portfolios (time will be spent assisting in the preparation of teaching portfolios – BRING YOUR LAPTOPS AND RESOURCES!)
- 3:30 PM: Grants and grant writing for SoTL
Invited talks, papers, posters, panels and tutorials will take place on Thursday and Friday March 27-28. The Conference encourages the submission of:
- Research papers (30 minute presentation)
- Workshops (75-90 minutes)
- Panel discussions (60-75 minutes)
- Presentation sessions (30-45 minutes)
- Posters (presented in a group poster session)
examining the impact of SoTL in these areas. Submissions should emphasize the use of both technology and active learning techniques in teaching, and the improvement they can and will make in learning.
Important Dates
All submissions will be reviewed and authors notified within two to three weeks from the date they are received. Early submissions are encouraged.
