2007
04.25

The BbWorld® ‘07 conference is the first global annual users conference that combines the Blackboard and WebCT communities.  This conference is a great opportunity to gather, share feedback unearth new ideas for improving e-Learning and have fun together.  We want to provide a quick preview from a WebCT perspective of the upcoming event in beautiful Boston from July 10th through the 12th.

We have worked closely with several client advisory groups to ensure the BbWorld ’07 program is comprised of keynote speakers, presentations, listening sessions and even social events that are directly relevant to you.

  • Over 150 client presentations and 32 pre-conference workshops – In addition to the many sessions with broad relevance across platforms, we received and are including in the program many CE and Vista solutions-oriented sessions, including specific presentations to help you manage and get the most out of your CE and Vista systems
  • Detailed information about new releases – Attend client panels, pre-conference workshops and staff-led sessions about Application Pack 2 for CE and Vista, and the Blackboard Content System™ and Blackboard Community System™ for CE and Vista
  • More forums for giving us product feedback – Share your ideas and suggestions with members of the Product Marketing and Product Development teams during a wide range of workshops, presentations, office hours and focus group sessions
  • Birds of a feather flock together – Registration from your WebCT client peers is already running strong so you’ll be able to find the colleagues you’re most interested in talking to during user group meetings, community gatherings, special interest receptions, and Birds-of-a-Feather breakfast and lunch sessions
  • Client Support Office Hours and Ask Dr. C – Meet directly with TSMs and support managers, and visit the doctors who will take any and all questions and lead relevant presentations

Client participation in previous WebCT !mpact and BbWorld conferences directly resulted in improved software and services, better communication throughout the community and the renewal of everyone’s commitment to improving teaching and learning.

Paper*Dollz Packing Prototype

2007

Daily: April 18, 2007
Daily: The Vermont Ledger Series

Goals for this week:

*Find magnetic sheet at a decent price
*Finish Reading Moving the Mountain and Summarize
*Get second life size doll prototype drawn and printed
*Get first box prototype shrink wrapped to see how it will hold up
*Clear 8 Feet of Wall in the Lavender Room to start working on display stuff
*Contact AT’s for next semester
*Work with Bern on Hair book

Studio Project:
Some interesting stuff going on this week in the studio. I tested the magnetic paint theory last week and I am not a hundred percent sold. I have decided to move to magnetic sheet and right now I am trying to find it at a reasonable price. Here’s some pictures from this weekend.

I also had lunch with Yvette today and brought her my box prototype to look at. I think this will work with a few adjustments. Here’s some pictures and some notes from lunch.

* Use Ledger Paper as box background
*Print using 2 pieces of card stock (inside 1 print, outside another print)
*2 pieces should make box stronger for shrink wrap
*Use cardboard around the edges
*Look at other toy boxes to come up with more marketing junk
* Include a Slogan: Jerry and I have come up with this based around the Transformers slogan:
More than Meets the Eye. Women in Disguise.
According to Jerry Anne Bryant wrote the transformers theme song. (He found this on a Dutch website and she currently works at the Joey Company…life can be kinda funny sometimes).

* Use numbers on the doll and ledger paper that are meaningful to women. For example, height/weight chart numbers, waist bust measurements, etc. Here’s a picture from an old Playboy I found after I had started working on the dolls. It might be an interesting way to incorporate the numbers on the paper doll itself.

*Use a sliding scale with 2 colors for the "good" and "bad" guys. Depending on each dolls percentages is where they will fall on the scale. The war between consumer/pop culture and counter culture places each doll on a "side" but the actual stereotypes have not defined an affiliation and are simply assigned by their traits.

Here’s some pictures of the packaging prototype. Try to remember that she will have clothing, hair and features. Each doll will have a different background and ultimately each box will be shrink wrapped. Things are slowly starting to come together.

* Last but not least, MUSIC. My video class is coming up very soon and I am starting to think about the Dead End Friends video but have been really thinking about using the paper doll instead. Jerry found a link for all the Transformer music at: http://www.tfcog.net/music.htm and this could actually be very fun. We will have to stew on this one.

Visual Culture Project:
The visual culture project is coming along slowly. I am actually experiencing a great deal of panic right now. In an effort to follow Sowon’s instructions I am trying to write note cards while reading my books. This has really slowed down the process of reading the books. My hopes are that I can organize and present the information better in the summaries and paper. I’ll let you know how this goes. Right now I am trying to get through Moving the Mountain and it is killing me.

Facebook/Communication with the Group:
I heard from Sabrina earlier this week. She is nominating me for the Tri-State Sculptors scholarship. Coolio.
Shaw is in France (lucky her), and all the CD’s finally went out. It seems that everyone is doing ok. Oliatan is also struggling with her reading and it seems like we are all either reading or working in the studio. Man.

Life in General:
Today was a good day but yesterday sucked a duck. And. I am officially stating that WORDPRESS SUCKS! We had a major malfunction after installing a spam filter yesterday with the blog and then I had a meltdown. I almost called it quits on this. But today is looking brighter although I have not attempted to post yet. In all fairness it could have been Go-Daddy. We will see.

Paper Dollz Tech Specs

Daily: The Vermont Ledger

Studio Project/PaperDollz Tech Specs:

Today was a good day. Stuff is finally starting to gel a little with the War/Lines/Stereotypes/Collecting, etc. idea. I started working on the Paper Dollz tech specs (short for technical specifications) that will be printed on the back of the box that they are "sold" in. They are currently based on the Transformer Tech Specs I mentioned earlier. Here’s another great link from Jerry describing the Transformer Tech Specs.

The owner of the new PaperDollz is encouraged to cut out the tech specs and save it. This card has information on the Doll, and will usually include:

* Picture (of each stereotype/doll)
* Name (of each stereotype/doll)
* Indication of allegiance (where they fall on the consumer (pop) culture / counter culture scale based on their actual technical specifications).

* Function (example: Stripper: To titillate
* Quote (associated with the character)
* Description (includes biography and behavioral characteristics, technical abilities, weaknesses)
* Technical Specifications (Domestic,Worker, Intellectual, Creative, Rebel,Exotic, Trophy)

Here’s an example I played with today in Photoshop after I sketched out the daily. After finishing it, Jerry and I brainstormed some more and this may wind up in an Excel spreadsheet. We will see.

Vintage Viewmaster Projector

Another Found Object Drawing
Daily: The Vermont Ledger Series
Viewmaster Elephant

I have decided to broaden my description of “found.” Currently it has included anything found in the trash, on a sidewalk, or on the side of the road. Since I simply can’t pass up neat-o stuff from the thrift store too I am going to include Thrift Stores. Why? Because sometimes you just can’t pass up gems like this: A real vintage Viewmaster Projector.

Sayer's Junior Projector

According to 3Dstereo.com this is “A ‘moderne’ projector design introduced in the early 1950’s by Sawyers. It is made of black bakelite and grey metal, and it projects images in 2D.” Coolio! I have to get a bulb and I can’t wait! I’ll let you know how it works as soon as I find out.

Cheers.
